So I was buying some more ammo, and some one said make sure its not the stuff that expires… I thought to myself “that doesn’t make sense” but not being one to dismiss anything without thinking, I looked at the box for a date.
No date…
So I go to the next best place, and find way too much info, but no real proof. Since some of the posts are over 2 years old I would think that some one would show this expired ammo…
I thought I would ask here as I have found a lot of intelligent people gathered in one place.
Thanks
Stored properly ammo will last for decades. I’ve never seen a box of ammo with an expiration date.
I have ammo that I bought 40 plus years ago and it goes bang 60 year old ammo might have some problems so unless you are 20 years old, expect TSHTF and that event will last 50 years, but ammo and don’t worry. Reloads might be problematic. I will use good quality reloads for practice and plinking
Phoenix, maybe someone saw a Lot number on a box of 5.56 ball ammo and didn’t realize what it was. That’s the only thing that comes to mind.
Should have put this in the prepping forum, I know from following you on here AGXIIK that you are well-prepared. I was wondering how many rounds of ammo you would recommend storing for the coming days?
Hopefully it’s a BAD RUMOR but I read online or heard @ work that the anti-gun lobby was trying to pass “expiring ammo laws” and never heard anything more about it. Usually there is a relatively long PR campaign, to satisfy the Freedom of Information Act (FIA) but I never heard of it again. HOPEFULLY and LIKELY, it was just a rumor, Period, end of story. I was even asking around, all of my hunting friends, and no one heard of it at all. This is like the second time I have heard of this in maybe 10 years.
“BUSTED”
I buy 880 round crates for my Mosin that were made in the 70′s. Cheap shooting that way. Have a couple thousand rounds for the Ruger 10/22. Need to stock up on shotgun shells as soon as the budget allows.
Silver one My personal practice is to have a minimum of 1,000 per caliber of weapon. At least 5 or better yet 10 magazines per caliber such as a 9mm or 45 caliber pistol and a 223 or 5.56 rifle. It depends on your favorite gun as to how many rounds to stock. Don’t degrade the 22 cal rifle as a reliable weapon. I have several and equipped then with 7,000 rounds and many magazines. Some of the 22 cal is up to 40 years old. Shotguns are all 12 gauge and I have about 1,000 rounds for those guns. My personal preference is to have at least 3,000 for my favorites, 9mm, 45 and 223/5.56 and 7.62×39.
I have been buying guns and ammo for years and have spread the cost over 3 decades or more so the cost is defrayed by time. One of the ways I convert FIAT to hard assets is buy more lead futures along with phyzz. This is not for everyone however so stocking at an affordable scale means selecting one or two calibers of pistol, 1 of rifle and one of shotgun and then concentrating on becoming proficient in each weapon system. Then buy ammo according to your budget. You can accomplish this with about $3,000 and have a first rate self defense system
Thanks everyone, I think that maybe it was this rumour @underground talked about that this guy was referencing.
To hear you guys talk about all these guns and ammo makes me jealous. Our laws are so strict getting anything is brutal.
I’m in the process of getting the right to buy a handgun. Should only take about 6 months and my first born LOL
On the plus side, since its so hard here there are very few weapons around.
A PS to my OCD nature about stocking guns and ammo. Their is recent post regarding the ammo count to date of the DHS/TSA. They have purchased roughly 1.6 billion rounds for their 40 cal, 223/5.556 and 308 sniper rifles . In comparason it would take 1,600,000 armed citizens with 1,000 rounds each to equal that. Fortunately we have 100,000,000 or more armed Americans with hundreds of BILLIONS of personally owned and held rounds of ammo. ” If you don’t hold it you don’t own it” goes for lead futures and shootin’ irons I wish you the best in acquiring a good good Pheonix What country do you hark from? New York?
