My teacher at school told us that we need to do an oral presentation in front of the class. The best part about it is that you can choose whatever subject you want but the presentation must be three minutes maximum and I can not use visual support.

I decided to talk about guns for my presentation where I would be explaining everyone about why guns especially assault rifles should be legal for Canadian citizens to own.

But, the problem is that 99% of the Canadian citizens get shocked whenever others support guns so I’m really scared that people at my school will criticize me and might even call me a terrorist for supporting guns. If they call me a terrorist for supporting guns and then I tell them “If that’s the logic, then the police is also a terrorist.”, then they would tell me that the police is here for safety, to keep everything in peace, to protect the law, etc. I remember on September 2012 when my teacher talked about a guy who tried to assassinate our new prime minister of our province with an AK-47 and everyone in my class was shocked about the fact that he had such an assault rifle and they said that’s crazy.

So the question is, should I talk about guns so that I can convince a bunch of people that guns aren’t bad or choose another subject to avoid criticism and get humiliated in front of the class? Also, someone might tell me that guns are tools that are specially designed to kill people so they should be banned.

It might take deep research but find plenty of supporting evidence where private gun ownership was saved lives. Then make the case for changes in the laws. Start with an intro to your topic, the points for and against then summarize your findings about why the laws need changing.

Please I need help from someone to beat this argument. Thank you!

Crimes with guns will completely disappear in this world if all countries including the USA and the Switzerland ban completely the ownership of guns to their citizens so that this way, people won’t be able  illegally import firearms from other countries. When all guns are removed from all citizens, cops won’t have to use their guns which means that there will be more peace.

How are they going to get the guns from armies? Drug dealers? Gangs? General crooks? When only governments have guns they become tyrannical, look at Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, China.

Comparing the war against drugs (illegal items) with the budding war on guns (potentially illegal items) one could draw the comparison that the war on drugs was a complete failure of untold billions and that drugs are more plentiful all the while peaceful non violent offenders are put away for huge prison sentences.

I tell this story not out of any sort of guilt OR pride but when I was in college I was into smoking pot and the occasional few pain pills. One of my first times at this guys house to get an illegal item (marijuana) he leads me to a false backed closet and opens it displaying (illegal items) hand grenades, rocket launchers, machine guns and asks me if I need any guns to call him. So he was selling an already illegal plant in one room and  illegal firearms in the next room…

That’s how gun control would look. PERIOD

After re-reading your post my real answer is to go with your gut. If you feel moved personally to inform a group of your peers then you are being led by a force larger than yourself and I would say pay attention to that inner voice and don’t worry about the fear aspect… something about the human soul on fire being the most powerful weapon :)

All you can do is plant seeds. This reminds me of a quote I heard a local gentleman use the other day and I don’t know where it originally came from but wisdom is intrinsically wise.

“I spent my whole life worrying about what other people thought of me only to get to the end and realize that no one was ever looking anyways”

If you did this in a US school we would be seeing you on FX news, arrested and dragged away.

Here is a suggestion.  Don’t bring show and tell. Don’t even bring pictures of firearms.  Instead , take some 3×5 cards and write down comments that are in the popular media and internet  today regarding firearms.   Use both pro and con  comments. Approach  the middle of these arguments by writing down one comment on each card without favoring one side or the other.  You are Switzerland–neutral. Of source the Swiss are some of the most heavily armed civilians in the world so you get to play both sides.

Then pass those out to 10 of your fellow students. With those in hand, start to ask of the student who has the card for x comment, y comment  etc to read that card’s statement aloud.    You have a  list of the questions and comments you posed on the cards so you control the debate/open forum.  You won’t need more than 5 comments from each side.   As each student states the comment, open up the forum to this one comment

The students with the cards are simply bearing witness to the comment, reciting it. The comment is free floating so it will be the subject of vigorous discussion.  You are the moderator.

This discussion path should create some first rate critical thinking as there are no firmly established sides. You are not taking sides even if you  may have firmly thought out opinions on these very controversial subjects.  You offer up the comments and let the students take it from there. You have to give limits to the length of dicussion or things can get out of hand.  If nothing else, it will stir up some very lively commentary.  Let us know how your presentation goes.

I call this the Tom Sawyer approach to class room presentations. Your fellow students to all the work  You supervise.

@Sumkid Sometimes, you’ve got to choose your battles carefully. The chance of one of your classmates getting shot is small. The chance of one of your classmates getting screwed by this ugly fiat currency system is 100%. In fact, about 97% of your class is going to get screwed. (You’re too smart to get screwed).

Get this kid’s speech down to 3 minutes, focus primarily on the interest us poor schmucks pay on money that doesn’t even exist and you’ve got one hell of a presentation. The teacher will probably think, “F**k, why didn’t I know that!”

Sure, you’ll get a lot of debate going with gun control, but it won’t change many lives. Understanding how our fiat money system works could change a lot of lives. Those guys in your class that you reach will remember you for the rest of their lives. Especially if you start your talk off with a Matrix reference. “Okay, folks. Do you want the red pill or the blue pill?”

Think of how many people you could wake up. You could even start a PMs investors club at school, and get cheaper shipments of coins.

All right I’m kinda back from coin roll hunting pennies! People didn’t criticize my presentation as much as I though which is good! :) I did like @AGXIIK said so which is to stay neutral during the presentation. I didn’t said that I support firearms and all I did is reply the opposite of the arguments that were against firearms with studies, facts, statistics, etc.
