Man With Parkinson’s Arrested for ‘Not Smiling’ at Olympics

No, this is not from The Onion but rather UK’s The Guardian, and occurred during the men’s cycling road race on July 28th during the first day of games in London.
UK police literally arrested 54 year old spectator Mark Worsfold who has Parkinson’s and brought him in for questioning because he ‘was not smiling‘ at the event.

Worsfold’s lucky his ‘crime’ was not committed in the USA where thanks to the NDAA he could be detained indefinitely without trial for his terrorist activities.

Welcome to the PRECRIME era.

Mark Worsfold, 54, a former soldier and martial arts instructor, was arrested on 28 July for a breach of the peace shortly before the cyclists arrived in Redhouse Park, Leatherhead, where he had sat down on a wall to watch the race. Officers from Surrey police restrained and handcuffed him and took him to Reigate police station, saying his behaviour had “caused concern”.

“The man was positioned close to a small group of protesters and based on his manner, his state of dress and his proximity to the course, officers made an arrest to prevent a possible breach of the peace,” Surrey police said in a statement.

Worsfold, whose experience was first reported by Private Eye, claims police questioned him about his demeanour and why he had not been seen to be visibly enjoying the event. Worsfold, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2010, suffers from muscle rigidity that affects his face. He was released after two hours without charge or caution.

I was arrested for not smiling. I have Parkinson’s.

  1. Mark is lucky he was not in North Korea when Dear Leader died.  If you didn’t bawl your eyes out you could be sent to the gulag.  England has lost its collective mind. The gummint is filled with idiots, the police have lost their minds and the 1984 loons have installed  over 4,500,000 video cameras  in the inland.  Maybe Mark would be better in North Korea  IMO

  2. When in the very home of strict adherence to Common Law, the tenet of ‘Innocent until proven guilty’ is dispensed like the contents of a chamber pot, the world has perfectly good reason to ‘stand en guarde’.

  3. Not smiling at a State event…sounds like a ‘crimethink’ to me right out of Orwell’s 1984.  This man needs a little re-education.  Perhaps a visit from the Thought Policy might help.

  4. These cops are out of control.  The olympics seats are empty because most people don’t want to be around military types.  They shoot first and ask questions later.

  5. He should get a good lawyer and seek the max..

  6. Just one more example of the sigh of the times.
