MSM attempts to demonstrate that gold is not a currency, hilarity ensues.
ReutersTV blogger Felix Salmon set out to duplicate Mark Dice’s famous video attempting to purchase a taco with an ounce of gold- with the intention of ‘proving’ that gold is not a currency.
After successfully being turned down by a beer delivery guy (since when do beer delivery guys sell a 24 pack to a stranger who walks up while they’re unloading their truck??), Walgreens, and ToysRUs, the experiment suddenly goes horribly wrong at a local food vendor, when the owner gladly accepts the gram of gold as payment for 3 lobster rolls.
Reuters pretends the embarrassment never occurred, titling the vid: Will a gold bar buy a case of beer?
Notice that Reuters doesn’t even have the balls to use a 1oz gold coin, instead offering a measly 1 gram bar:
And of course Mark Dice attempting to buy a .99 taco from taco bell with an ounce of gold:

They need to come to my shop! I’ll take it. The public will get educated fast and soon. Before long they will have digital pocket scales.

The small businessman is no fool. You don’t get a lucrative spot on Times Square by being slow on the up-take. Plus the other businesses have corporate rules that dictate what goes in the register.
I thought they were pushy showing the Crabman’s safe.
Digital scales… now that’s a good idea for an iphone app.
Tox, I think they have it already and would be good if not. Just as long as it dosen’t drop the weight. Ha Ha
That guy unloading beer knew what the 1 gram bar was roughly worth, which is actually rather impressive because most Americans are totally clueless about the price per ounce, never mind the price per gram. I got the impression he’d be happy to sell beer for gold but that he couldn’t sell beer for anything at all. Delivery people don’t sell the items they’re delivering. They have customers sign invoices.
Wombat, That delivery guy would have jumped on that gram if the camera wasn’t there
Yes, they didn’t have the balls to offer 1oz, but only 1 gram of which it can be difficult to calculate the ounce value off-head.
My take on it was two out of four the delivery guy new what it was worth and would have jumped at it if he was able. The other two that declined were both working for corporate stores where people aren’t alowed to think for them selves but just follow rules.
I wonder if he would try the same thing in Utah or Virginia or Missouri. He’s lucky he didn’t have taken from him by someone that just thought it would look nice on a chain. And the Taco Bell Chick, what a dunce. Why don’t I get deals like that? Oh well.
I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for 2 Oz’s SOY-lent Green Obama Burger for a gram a tungsten today. This offer is only good once.
Hay 2oz, So the Doc posted a photo for you? I thought it was late for you to do it last night. I vote for it to stay, I love it!
The mainstream media is becoming more and more stupid, and this little propaganda piece from them will only backfire in a major way (just look at the most thumbs-up comments on YouTube). It will let people know that gold is beginning to be viewed as money again.
It they had the ‘balls’, the mainstream media should repeat the experiment with silver (more substance and weight at these small Dollar denominations), and see if people will not accept it more readily.
At your next charity function or event, tell the fundraisers that you will contribute in silver coins instead of Dollars, and let them keep the silver for themselves and pay out Dollars instead, as a way to promote saving money in silver, which is only going to be worth more in the future because of all of the out-of-control ‘money’ printing that the bankers are doing all over the world.
This is an absolute joke… I for one am glad the one owner took the gold… They needed to go to more “small” non corporate businesses and then they would see how wrong they are in assuming gold is not money… Kinda funny that they use grams seeing how uneducated alot of people are in basic measurements… Most people don’t have a clue as to what a gram actually is nor would they know how many make up an oz or troy oz and so on… I find it funny that MSM are usually the ones with the blindfolds on and not Main Stream Q public… Love it!
I know a silver coin won’t work as I tried twice to buy something with it at a couple of locals and my Diner and it was a Barber Half. The response was. What the %$(& is that, no way.
Then they would kick themselves after I told them what it was worth, if they had known they would have taken it. Lol
I’d take a 1 oz silver coin against a bill that was approx. 20-30 euros. And make sure the administrative side disappears
But then again I run a small business. No rules from above.
It’s easy to joke about this video—crispy golden lobster rolls for crispy green pocket lettuce or crispy golden grams? My suggestion with this video? Find out which merchants and service providers in your local area will take silver coinage, either Constitutional silver or .999 silver rounds. Once you have a list of these people and you’ve done your part to educate them about the value of silver (or gold for the larger purchases). You now have a new source of commodities if things get a bit dicey. Know what I mean?
If gold and silver go into lock down like they have in other countries, with VATs, limitations on currency withdrawals, bank holidays, extortionate taxes like the 100% bullion tax proposed in the Obama drones, our phyzz could be subject to some really harsh regulations through NDAA or more importantly the NDRP Executive order signed on April 13. That’s the National Defense Resource Preparedness doctrine which basically says—what you think you own is, in reality, owned by the government. We are just allowing you the illusion of ownership, and that includes your labor if we chose to take you to the gulag. Damn, this is depressing
Ya gotta know somethings up when they spend time trying to disprove something so simple.
I’m with you Dayvd – “…doth protest too much, methinks”
Go to a business that is owned by a Chinese person and try this. My bet is that the gold will disappear from his hand so fast he will forget that he was holding it! lol
