Ron Paul: “When They Came For The Raw Milk Drinkers…”

swat milk raidWhile I oppose most gun control proposals, there is one group of Americans I do believe should be disarmed: federal agents. The use of force by federal agents to enforce unjust and unconstitutional laws is one of the major, albeit overlooked, threats to liberty. Too often Americans are victimized by government force simply for engaging in commercial transactions disproved of by Congress and the federal bureaucracy.

For example, the offices of Rawesome Foods in Venice, California, have been repeatedly raided by armed federal and state agents, and Rawesome’s founder, 65-year old James Stewart, has been imprisoned. What heinous crime justified this action? Rawesome sold unpasteurized (raw) milk and cheese to willing customers – in a state where raw milk is legal! You cannot even drink milk from a cow without a federal permit!

From Ron Paul:

When They Came For The Raw Milk Drinkers…

While I oppose most gun control proposals, there is one group of Americans I do believe should be disarmed: federal agents.

This is hardly the only case of federal agents using force against those who would dare meet consumer demand for raw milk. In 2011 armed agents of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raided the business of Pennsylvanian Amish farmer Dan Allgyer. Federal agents wasted a whole year and who knows how many millions of our tax dollars posing as customers in order to stop Allgyer from selling his raw milk to willing customers.

The use of force against individuals making choices not approved of by the political elite does not just stop with raw milk. The Natural News website has documented numerous accounts of federal persecution, including armed raids, of health food stores and alternative medical practitioners.

Federal bureaucrats are also using force to crack down on the makers of gold coins for fear that people may use these coins as an alternative to the Federal Reserve’s fiat currency. Bernard von NotHaus, the founder of Liberty Dollars, is currently awaiting sentencing on federal counterfeiting charges — even though Mr. von NotHaus took steps to ensure his coins where not used as “legal tender.”

Yet, the federal government was so concerned over the possibility that Mr. von NotHaus’s customers might use his coins in regular day-to-day commerce they actually labeled Mr. von NotHaus a “terrorist.”

These type of police state tactics used against, among others, raw milk producers, alternative health providers, and gold coin dealers is justified by the paternalistic attitude common in Washington, D.C. A member of Congress actually once told me that, “The people need these types of laws because they do not know what is good for them.” This mindset fuels the growth of the nanny state and inevitably leads to what C.S. Lewis said may be the worst from of tyranny “…a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims.”

All Americans, even if they do not believe it is a wise choice to drink raw milk or use gold coins, should be concerned about the use of force to limit our choices. This is because there is no limiting principle to the idea that the government force is justified if used “for our own good.” Today it is those who sell raw milk who are being victimized by government force, tomorrow it could be those who sell soda pop or Styrofoam cups. Therefore, all Americans should speak out against these injustices.

  1. Note to the people who drink unflouridated water:
THEY ARE COMING AFTER YOU NEXT!
    ===============================
All kidding aside, eight years ago when I first started reading about the increasingly overbearing ‘nanny-state,’ it appeared to just be looney talk from the tin-foil hat group.  But at the years went by – and especially since after last November’s election – it seems the .gov has done away with its ‘kid-gloves’ and is no longer even trying to hide the fact from the people, that it is assuming dictatorial powers.

(Having said THAT, this story is obviously dated, because it mentions that Bernard von NotHaus, the founder of Liberty Dollars, is currently awaiting sentencing – when he actually has already been sentanced and is now serving time in a federal prison.  Which in itself is ironic:  Prison time = paying your debt to society, whereas Bernard von Nothaus minted his coins because he believed debt is destroying the $USD.)

  2. I just learned about Pasteur’s (admitted on death bed) mistakes. And it’s darn hard to get raw milk and cheese.
Raw is portayed as straight up salmonella poisoning, while it may in fact keep up from being chronically fat and sick. And “we” can’t have THAT…

  3. When the government tries to make us safe, they always either  overreach or, IMO, their intentions are suspect.
Flouridation is rat poison put into the water.
    GMO foods are suspect.
The war on terrorist, drugs and the poor all resulted in less freedom, more debt and more drugs.  The only beneficiaries in these ‘war’ was the government and their minions and lackeys.
    Pasteurization is over rated.
We had milk right from the farmer in our neighborhood.
“We’re from the government and we’re here to help’ may be be the biggest oxymoron, with emphasis on ‘moron’ ever  spoken.   I’ve not seen a helpfulness from my government in decades.
Thanks, but I can run my life just fine without the overbearing help of an oppressive regime.

    • my grandfather was a dairy farmer, we drank a lot of milk straight from the cow and it never killed us. But back then good sanitation was a religion compared to now where some farmers it is all about shortcuts.

    • Oooh, AG, bad attitude.  Voicing that thought could get you re-programmed, er, re-educated.

Don’t know about raw milk from cows but I sure got plenty of raw milk from my mom’s breasts.  It was not pasteurized either but somehow I managed to not only survive but get BIG and STRONG.  HA!  None of that silly cow milk for me, whether pasteurized or not!

  4. Ron Paul Needs To Come back, I’m Missing him Just Like Real Milk.

  5. For those who think the problem is raw milk, Its not! Like many others who were raised on raw milk, we are alive and well. The farmer has no one to blame but himself. For those of you who are either to young or city boys, farmers are the KING of government welfare. They got in bed with the devil a long time ago, and the devil gave them everything their heart desired. Once the devil had them where he wanted them, he started to tell the farmer what the do gooders wanted and he, the farmer would comply, or no more loans from the devil!! Now comes the greedy agricultural businessman who screws the devils agents and what do you get? New rules for farmers to live buy. but not only the farmer, the consumer now has to pay more for the businessman’s great ideas that were agreed to by the devil, so that they could all line their pockets with money. With the need to get the maximum production from those cows, the scientific magic wand comes out and presto more milk, oops!!! problems start to arise and the devil sends out the health guru, who works for the scientific businessman and whamo we need new laws to protect the public from those evil little farmers who did not spread their legs to the devil. They must be stop because they are selling bad milk. YES they must want to kill everyone with claim that raw milk is good for you. Remember the GURU health man, who’s paid by the businessman mans lobbyist? Same song, just different dancers. Bankers, politicians mixed together and you get the same thing every time. A F******  MESS  They want everything you have, so don’t take this to lightly, its only a side story of the big story.

  6. “A member of Congress actually once told me that, “The people need these types of laws because they do not know what is good for them.””

Any bets as to which party this a**hole belonged?  No, I didn’t think so.

  7. Yep, I feel more and more like Walter, ventriloquist Jeff Dunham’s resident crank.   Bad attitude, curmudgeonly and willing to say it like it is.  If someone wants to reprogram me they may find I’ll turn the tables on them.  And my head is just as hard as Walter’s, scowl too boot.
