Last night brought images of sharks in NJ, massive explosions at Con Edison, and a taste of Noah’s flood to Manhattan residents.
Early Tuesday, photos of the devastation from Hurricane Sandy continue to come in.
NYC and New Jersey are devastated the morning after Sandy tore through the Northeast.

Biblical-type damage and destruction? Really? With that type of hype, I’m surprised you didn’t come out and say that the US only has 48 states now.
LOL! It goes well with all the hype in the buy-bull.
nah, we did not lose TEN STATES!!!
(Re: Obama claiming he’d campaigned in 57 states, 1 more to go!)
;)
Why is everything powered up in that NYSE picture if power is out there?
I noticed that too!
2 possibilities:
1. The surge that caused the blow-up might have disconnected the grid tie breaker.
2. It was sabotage, and the grid tie was cut off before the blast.
I expected some sort of a dimming or interruption when it blew, but did not see one.
It could blow and not lose power in the surrounding area, most metro areas have
small mini-grids with at least dual feeds, to avoid such power losses and single substation failure.
Kinda like the bigger over all grid setup. Referring only to the transformer explosion.
These shots with power must have been before they cut the power, which was done to prevent the flooding from blowing up more transformers and vaults.
(Electric vaults, folks. Not bank vaults LOL!)
The NYSE photo was taken prior to the hurricane arriving. The exchange was closed all day and the photo was part of a news story (Photo: Richard Drew, AP,) In fact it’s a stock photo and was used in many news articles.
What I do find very funny is there is no photos I can find after the storm!!! When Photo Journalist are all over snapping shots of damage…
Maybe this picture was taken before the power outage. The closure of New York Stock Exchange happened before the power outage.
In the final pages of Atlas Shrugged, John Galt said he will emerge when the light went out in New York. Where’s John Galt?
Bring a squeege and a mop
LOL @AGXIIK!!!
At least the flood killed a lot of rats living in the underground so there are less pests. On the second picture, there’s a “wet floor” sign in the middle of the wet road. The Atlantic city is submerged which is an irony by its name.
Here’s a video below about one of New York’s subway station flooded with water.
