  • My Faith in Silver is Just About Broken
    May 23, 2013 07:05 pm
  • I picked up a few semi-numismatic coins a couple of days ago. Did not have any of them in my stack so I wanted to round it out a bit with a few of the prettier coins. I am still a fairly young guy at 35 so I am keeping my glass half full. I am certainly discouraged but I do believe that eventually my silver will be properly and fairly valued. The last few trading days have been very interesting and dare I say that silver and gold are acting as if they are bottoming. But as soon as I start believing that they will slap it down to an $18 handle. Keep stackin'.

  • Shortwave ham frequencies provide worldwide communications daily.  VHF/UHF has its place in local comms. No morse code to get a license anymore. Doesn't hurt to know it tho because it will get thru jamming and interference voice can't. All my antennas are emp grounded, it is called lightning protection too.

  • PS: GROUND your EMP Shielding, that cannot hurt and likely helps. I bet MaryB already has though LOL! Is Morse Code still part of the HAM License?   They cannot really shut down the frequencies, but may attempt to jam them. But more likely they will monitor these channels. Think about it!

  • There goes the idea that I could get in cheaply!  I knew that was too easy. Would I be able to contact anyone worldwide?  That was my thought going with this idea in the first place.  What's the point in buying one if it doesn't go worldwide?  I thought they all had global abilities.  I may have to re-think this.

  • that is only good for local line of sight FM communications. You really need shortwave capabilities also. Like the Yaesu FT-817 or FT-857 or FT-897

  • I have thought about this. If it is not in the US, it is a risk IMO. Even in the US, it could still be seized in a bank holiday. hard to say   Thanks for perspective, Mammoth

  • What will happen?
    May 21, 2013 08:58 am
  • Silver Dollar - if I cash out now I cannot buy silver in Ecuador for anywhere near this ridiculously low price. Its just that I have been concerned that when things collapse all I will be able to get over here is the cash. And I have to worry if some government will steal all funds in goldmoney. Mary B - I looked into taking delivery and there is anywhere from a 30-50% customs fee for entering Ecuador if I ever receive it. PM's are more likely to just go missing here. As you can see I have waited too long to get into physical here and now find myself plagued with what to do. Thank you for your responses.

  • Store a radio in a steel container, make sure to bubble wrap it for insulation. Stick it in the attic, garage, wherever as a spare in case of confiscation. I have an old Drake tube rig I am restoring that will be mostly EMP proof

  • EBAY: ASE's at 40% PREMIUM
    May 20, 2013 06:24 pm
  • Nice Shootin' TEX! I am thinking avoid the ASE's (I have some) as they are prolly tracked by Big Bro... at least the bulk purchases, as I started out with. But that went down in Lake Monroe, stupid of me to take the stack with me on vacation! You are best off buying with cash, and junk is usually bought with cash, at least how I do it. BUT the KooKs will be nice in the future, unless... Dollar Cra$h! Then all silver is pretty much GOLD, including Numis. Or the premiums will be minimal until we return to a state of "normal" if that ever happens...

  •   Call it a Petit Mal, mild stroke, or just a temporary lapse of sanity, but I went against my junk coin roots last night.  Earlier, I had stated my preference for junk.  This remains true to this day, but last night I purchase some silver from Apmex that in no way can be considered junk:   2013 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra - Snake Privy   Mintage 50,000 coins. Picked up eight of them last night. I don't think I'll be straying back on this wayward path any time soon.  I like the fact that some collect Kookaburras, and with the low mintage, I can see a pleasant premium on these in a few years.  Time will tell, but either way, I've added to the stack, although the stack would have been a little bit heavier with the junk as these Kookaburras ran close to $29 per coin.   TexasStacker

  • I feel ya Mary. My average buying cost is around $30....Although as you said, I still believe in all the fundamentals, and where silver SHOULD be, its hard not to get discouraged at WHERE IT ACTUALLY IS! "200 years from now your silver will still be valuable." Statements like this absolutely CRACK ME UP!!!!  Who gives a crap about the years of the 1400's when gold and silver were currency and who the hell cares about 200 years from now?? We will all be DEAD!!!  I care about the here and now and the near future, 10-15 years. When people say that 200 years from now fiat will be dead but silver will remain, its just comical. It really is.

  • LOL, it was a free non sanctioned test.  Just wanted to see how much I already knew.  Learning curve should be a piece of cake. Things I have been wondering though are whether the gov would shut down those frequencies in a SHTF scenario.  No point in heading in that direction if it's a lost cause when I get there.  I realize no one can predict what TPTB will do, but I would like to be prepared.

  • The error I see stackers making is the value of their stash in fiat. Fiat that is rapidly losing any purchasing power and is losing its usefulness. Price your stack in real world goods to see how you are doing. $4 silver years ago bought 8-16 gallons of gas, $21 silver still buys 8 gallons of gas today so how much value have you lost? None!

  • This is it! It's the end of precious metals' bubble! Silver is now at 20.90$ per ounce and gold at around 1342$ per ounce! Silver got hit very badly after the opening of the market.

  • There are many ways to view this one way is insurance, you pay for policies don't you?  I hope my home never get blown away in a storm but if it does I have a policy to cover it.  I like insurance, it's not always cheap but I sleep better at night knowing I have it.
